Washington native Aryn Morell may not have realized at the time that his experience consulting on chemical engineering in the wine industry, and working at various wineries throughout Napa Valley, would someday give him the skills to produce quality wine for Matthews.

In 2007, he started his path as a winemaker for Matthews, and the debut of Tenor Wines as well. He is now putting his skills to the test to make a wide variety of wines ranging from classic Cabernet Sauvignon to Matthews’ popular Sauvignon Blanc. Matthews wines are both exquisite and perplexing, each with a clean, distinctive nose and flavor profile.

“I believe that the wines display a much clearer distinctive nose that allows the person enjoying the wine to be able to clearly access the different dimensions of the wine,” Aryn says.

Matthews opened its doors in 1993, and today is owned and operated by two local families. The focus is and always has been on showcasing the incredible fruit produced by Washington State’s vineyards, which they feel is some of the best in the country.

The connection among the soil and vines, winemaker, community, and everything in between is detected in every bottle. Matthews believes so deeply in connecting to its environment and community that a portion of the proceeds made from their Blackboard labeled wine goes to help support a local charity that supports local education programs.

The eight-acre winery houses their tasting room, the Barrel Room, and also the Estate House which acts as a bed and breakfast for guests who wish to stay the night in the heart of Woodinville wine country. It is also the perfect venue for weddings and other special occasions. The house is equipped with a state-of-the-art kitchen and great room, and is ideal for entertaining small intimate gatherings or large private events.
