2005 Bennet Lane Cabernet Sauvignon

2005 Bennet Lane Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Delicious and complex with balanced tart and sweet flavors of blackberry, dark plum, smoked blueberry, dusty dried dark flower petals, leather, tobacco leaf and a hint of dark spice. Very smooth feel, light, lush and soft on the attack. The wine begins tender and round, and then medium-grained tannins make a slow appearance that eventually leads to a soft dryness all around the palate. Scents of dark, dried mixed flowers lead the way, yielding to dark mixed berries, with pronounced young blackberry and dusty bramble, with mixed sweet woods, cedar and oak. These are eventually joined by hints of cigar, leather and eucalyptus. (usual retail $55)

Bennett Lane Winery’s steps to promote sustainability and responsible winemaking:

  • Soil Erosion Prevention Plans
  •  Cover crops include no-till plantings of California native perennial grasses
  • Only organic and soft chemicals are used
  • Grape skins and biproducts are composted
  • Compost is applied to add organic matter
  •  Vineyard prunings tilled into the soils
  •  Low-flow frost protection sprinkler heads

Bennett Lane Winery  has received thirty-six 90+ Point scores from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2007 Cache Creek Cabernet Sauvignon

2007 Cache Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County

5X Medalist!!
Our Cabernet Sauvignon has a medium dark red color with garnet edges.   The classic varietal aroma of cabernet demonstrates herbal notes complemented by French and American Oak. The mouth feel is soft and round with ample intensity.  The finish leaves a rich chocolate and vanilla impressions with complex layers of fruit and oak.  This wine will pair well with many foods and should age well with proper storage. (usual retail $26)

All the fruit for Cache Creek’s red wines comes from a large block of estate vines that slope gently down toward ponds that serve as water sources for waterfowl, otters, beavers, deer, elk and wild turkeys. A variety of grasses for the elk and other animals to feed on and to attract beneficial insect predators, which minimize use of pesticides. In-row tilling avoids the use of herbicides, and owl boxes provide a natural method of gopher control. The long-range goal is to convert vineyard entirely to organic farming.

2008 Westbrook Wine Farm Sturm Garner Vineyard Clone 4

2008 Westbrook Wine Farm Sturm Garner Vineyard Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sierra Foothills

"Our clients now refer to it as "C-4" for its explosive mineral, herbal and forest floor expressions. Fashioned from hand selected bunches from two acres of the ever shy old clone four grown at 3,000 feet in elevation in the mountains of Mariposa." (usual retail $30)

Westbrook Wine Farm practices sustainable farming and minimalist winemaking. We make our wine in the traditional Claret style by co-fermenting grapes, rather than by making separate varietal wines and blending them. Wesbrook Wine Farm received the 2014 "Winery of the Year" award from The Madera Vintners Association.

2008 Buttonwood Cabernet Sauvignon

2008 Buttonwood Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara County

90 Points!Stephen Tanzer
Inky ruby.  Dark fruit preserves, cherry-cola, pipe tobacco and peppery spices on the highly perfumed nose.  Stains the palate with deeply pitched blackberry and blueberry flavors complicated by zesty spice and floral pastille nuances.  Manages to be both powerful and lively, finishing with very clarity, silky tannins and lingering sweetness. (usual retail $28)

“Sustainability at Buttonwood began in 1968 when Betty Williams left her life in southern California and purchased beautiful Buttonwood Farm. She had developed an early interest in the environment and over the years nurtured a desire to be connected to the land. At Buttonwood, Betty initiated many projects involving cultivation of the land, including our vineyard, peach orchard, row crops and the tasting room gardens. Over the years most of the growing has been done organically (without chemicals), but organics is very narrow in focus and Betty’s vision has been more far-reaching. While use of organic methods is useful for keeping toxins from being added to water supplies and the food chain, it does not take into account the equally important issues of sensible use of human resources, soil compaction and erosion, restoration or conservation of natural habitats, and promotion of biodiversity, all of which are important in enhancing and maintaining the integrity of the land for the long term.”
