This wine received 90 points from Wine Advocate. The eighty year-old Syrah (70%) and Grenache Noir (30%) vines come from a soils of clay, limestone, and pebbles. One hundred percent of the grapes were harvested by hand and manually sorted at the estate. All grapes were de-stemmed. They fermented and macerated for about three weeks in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Elevage (a French term for the progression of wine between fermentation and bottling): twelve months in new oak barrels. Tasting notes: Dominant aromas of new oak, with aromas of red berries, cherries and blackcurrant and a generous and robust structure. (usual retail $45)

Nebbiolo d'Alba (Piedmont) Nebbiolo d'Alba Piadvenza shows a brilliant ruby red and nuances of garnet red, moderate transparency. The nose denotes intense, clean, pleasing and refined aromas which start with hints of cherry, plum and violet followed by aromas of raspberry, vanilla, rose, cinnamon and cocoa. The mouth has good correspondence to the nose, a tannic attack and however balance by alcohol, good body, intense flavors, agreeable.

The finish is persistent with flavors of cherry, plum and raspberry. Nebbiolo d'Alba Piadvenza ages for one year in cask followed by about 6 months of aging in bottle. (usual retail $20))

A knockout wine from a boutique operation with some serious talent. Dark and racy, displaying a solid mix of jammy blackberry, blueberry, mace and vanilla husk notes. On the firm side, with a round, smoky finish. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. The winery and vineyards of Altocedro are located in the premier region of La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Winemaker and owner Karim Mussi Saffie uses sustainable growing practices to produce limited amounts of terroir-driven wines. The vines range up to 100 years of age. All harvesting, sorting, and crushing are done in individual batches by hand. Fermentation occurs either in small cement tanks or in barrels, and the extract is done with a gravity flow system developed at the winery over 100 years ago. Altocedro has become synonymous with outstanding La Consulta wine. (usual retail $29)
