Getting There
From Washington, take Hwy 66 W. Exit at Delaplane (Exit 23) and take Hwy 17 (1 mile). Cross railroad tracks and turn left onto Three Fox Lane. After railroad tracks, take an immediate left onto Three Fox Lane.

In the heart of Northern Virginia horse country, Three Fox Vineyards is proving that the region’s rolling hills are good for more than just grazing. The boutique winery, situated on 50 undulating acres, is producing several award-winning estate wines from varieties grown in Italy, like Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Pinot Grigio, and Cabernet Franc.

Three grinning fox statues named Milano, Della, and Giovanni, are the first to greet wine tourers along the tasting room driveway. Proprietors Holli and John Todhunter are often in the tasting room, along with a friendly staff anxious to greet guests and make them feel at home. The Todhunters have made many trips to Italy and have combined their passion for life, wine, and Italy to bring a little of La Dolce Vita (the sweet life) to Virginia. Just outside the tasting room door is the vineyard where an al fresco terazza, brick patio, and gardens dotted with picnic tables invite wine tourers to stop and appreciate the splendid view, reminiscent of Tuscany. There’s a meadow with picnic tables and hammocks down by Crooked Run, which can be easily reached in one of the winery’s new four-seat Wine Mobiles.

But the views aren’t the only things to savor at Three Fox Vineyards. The 2007 Volpe Sangiovese recently received a Gold Medal and the 2007 Alouette Cabernet Franc took a Silver at the Atlantic Seaboard Competition. And their Port alternative, the 2007 Rosso Dolce Chambourcin, has a loyal following.

Located just 40 minutes from Washington D.C.’s beltway, Three Fox Vineyards hosts many fun events for wine lovers seeking a quick getaway. Italian-themed festivals occur all year long, and the winery has arranged a special Vino Immersion package with a local Italian gourmet restaurant and a nearby inn. Guests participate in vineyard and/or winery training activities and seminars while they enjoy delightful meals. It’s easy to see why the Todhunters say, “Every day is a festival of life at Three Fox Vineyards.”
