At Vihuela (vee-way-la) Winery the passion for wine is inextricably entwined with a passion for music. Vihuela can be loosely translated to mean Spanish guitar, and much like a sultry flamenco song, each of its wines has its own unique rhythm and soul. About 20 years ago, Matt Mikulics and his wife began to travel to the Central Coast to enjoy the scenery, the people, and of course the wines. He found such pleasure in all three that after receiving his enology degree from Fresno State, and after working for various wineries, he returned to the Central Coast to pursue his dream of owning his own vineyard. After teaming up with Mike Vihuela, the dream became reality and Vihuela Winery broke ground in 2002. With Matt as the scientist and Mike as the artist, the musical harmony of this winemaking team is reflected in their beautifully balanced fine wines. Matt and Mike believe that great wine, like great music, is dependent on the blending of unique yet compatible elements. So intermingled is their appreciation for wine and music, that Vihuela is releasing a wine called Incendio, named after the international recording artists. The Spanish trio, in turn, recorded a song entitled “Vihuela.” The song, the CD, and the wine made their debut at a release party on October 12, 2008. This type of event epitomizes the essence of Vihuela—creative, fresh, and edgy. |

In January of 2008, Vihuela’s tasting room opened in downtown Paso Robles. Not surprisingly, the spot embodies the spirit of this young winery. Soul-inspiring music, exuberant local art, and unforgettable personalities greet delighted wine tourers.
