This year marks the 129th anniversary of Wente Vineyards. Founded in 1883 by German immigrant Carl Heinrich Wente, it is still owned and operated by fourth- and fifth-generation descendants, making it the oldest continuously operated family-owned winery in the United States. Guests can sample from the Vineyard Selection and Heritage Block wines, which include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling, or taste more than 20 tasting room–exclusive small lot wines. The Nth Degree wines, which are handcrafted small lots by Winemaker Karl Wente, are included.

Located near San Francisco, the 3,000 acres of sustainably farmed estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay; and Arroyo Seco, Monterey appellations are truly a family affair. Fourth- and fifth-generation Wente family members manage the vineyards, winemaking operations, and oversee the lifestyle businesses, including the restaurant, concert series, and golf course. The Wente family is proud to have been awarded 2011 American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.

Last year, Wente Vineyards celebrated its 25th anniversary of entertaining guests with delicious wine country cuisine at The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards and with music at its summer concert series. The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards uses locally grown organic ingredients sourced within a 100-mile radius as much as possible. The restaurant’s accolades include the 2011 Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence and a Santé Magazine award in 2010 for Excellence in Culinary Hospitality.

The Concerts at Wente Vineyards have always drawn world-class performers, including Diana Ross and Willie Nelson, to this unique Northern California outdoor amphitheater setting. Savvy concert-goers select Restaurant Dining tickets, which include a four-course meal at The Restaurant followed by front-row seats at the performance. Others opt for the equally delightful outdoor buffet prepared by Wente Vineyards Catering with locally grown and sourced ingredients.

Golfers can head for The Course at Wente Vineyards to play an 18-hole championship course designed by Greg Norman. The Course was recently designated a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

Family, food, entertainment and, of course, the wines beckon visitors to experience the legacy that is Wente Vineyards.
