Michigan has four appellations. In the northwestern part of the state, Traverse City wine country lies north of town on Leelanau Peninsula and Old Mission Peninsula. Both have produced classic European vinifera vines from 40-plus years, resulting in many acclaimed wines. Today, many of the region’s winemakers are branching out in new directions: blending and distilling an exciting assortment of sophisticated ice wines, brandies, port wines, and ciders, widely acclaimed for their excellence and originality.
