Story

In the remote western reaches of Lake County’s High Valley Appellation, Brassfield Estate Winery cultivates grapes in some of the most extreme vineyard conditions in the state of California. Its estate vineyards are planted at elevations ranging from 1,800 feet on the valley floor to nearly 3,000 feet along the surrounding volcanic ridges. These raw and rocky vineyard sites experience 30-to 40-degree diurnal temperature swings allowing for a slightly longer growing season and more nuanced, distinctly Brassfield flavors: bright, crisp, and aromatic white wines and red wines with deep, rich colors; intense character, and supple tannins.

Under the direction of renowned, Consulting Winemaker David Ramey, Old World, handcrafted techniques such as native yeast fermentation, sur lie aging with battonage, and bottling without filtration are practiced in a state-of-the-art facility. The winemaking team is dedicated to artful and expressive wines that are authentic to both the place and the varietal from which they are produced.

This combination of place and philosophy has brought high acclaim to the portfolio of wines: a deliciously seductive Pinot Noir, a refreshing and supple Pinot Gris, a sophisticated palate-pleasing Alsatian blend named Serenity, and a mouthwatering volcanic fruit bomb fittingly called Er uption. Year after year, this red blend of Syrah, Malbec, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah scores 90-plus points. The current 2012 vintage scored 92 points at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, 94 points at the Los Angeles International Wine Competition, 90 points from Wine and Spirits magazine, and most recently, 92 points from The Tasting Panel magazine. The wines are not only praised for their style and balance, but also for their remarkable affordability.

After navigating the rough and tumble coun- try roads that lead to Brassfield Estate Winery, visitors are soothed by the serene setting of ancient and majestic oaks in the distance and meticulously manicured gardens surrounding the Mediterranean-inspired architecture in this High Valley oasis.
