Story

Established in 1863, Valley of the Moon Winery at Madrone Estate is the oldest operating winery in Glen Ellen and the original gateway to the stunning Sonoma Valley. Open vistas, sunny patios, a bocce court, and an original stone barrel cellar create an incomparable wine country setting. Here, guests can settle in and fully experience the winery’s rich, rooted history amidst 100-year old vines as they sip on distinctive estate-driven wines, crafted in small lots by Winemaker Kat Doescher.

Kat, who has been with the winery since 2006 and head winemaker since 2014, continues to lead the winery and its impressive collection of wines from Sonoma County including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, estate-grown Zinfandel, Barbera, and Sangiovese.

Besides a sublime setting and excellent wines, Valley of the Moon Winery at Madrone Estate offers a superb culinary program under the direction of its own estate chef to bring wine, food, and friends to the table together. Options for a seated wine and food pairing include an Artisanal Cheese Plate with toasted Marcona almonds and wildflower honey; a Rustic Charcuterie Board with wild boar salami and warm bone marrow; and a Decadent Chocolate Pairing with a seasonal selection of dark chocolates. Guests who make arrangements ahead can also order a gourmet plated lunch paired with a flight of five wines. And, for the pièce de résistance, there’s a sumptuous seasonal three-course wine and food pairing. This tantalizing tasting menu is inspired by Estate Chef Sam Badolato, who has Sicilian roots. With more than 30 years of culinary experience, Chef Sam creates dishes from the fi nest locally sourced ingredients with fl avors that pair impeccably with the wines.

From the warm and welcoming tasting room to the beautiful grounds graced with vineyards and olive trees, Valley of the Moon Winery at Madrone Estate invites guests to experience everything there is to love about Sonoma wine country
