For 35 years, the sun has danced on the grapes of an exceptional 35-acre vineyard along De Portola Road. It was first planted by Dr. William Filsinger, who sold the Temecula vineyard and winery to Bob Olson in 2010. Bob named his new enterprise Danza del Sol (dance of the sun) Winery to honor the storied vineyard where the grapes for his quality Mediterranean-style wines would grow.
Bob hired acclaimed winemaker, lecturer, and judge, Mike Tingley, as Danza del Sol’s winemaker. With 30 years of experience with Temecula Valley grapes, Mike was excited to have the opportunity to work with grapes from the famed vineyard. “This is every winemaker’s dream,” Mike says. “My vision is to craft varietal wines and innovative blends that are not only delicious, but have an identity.”
The current portfolio represents Mike’s ambition beautifully with a fascinating range of wines. The white list includes the Le Blanc SV, a bright 60/40 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier; a delightfully sweet Gewürztraminer; and the sparkling Espumosa. Equally diverse, the red wine program features a silky Grenache; an aromatic Sangiovese; and a memorable blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, aptly named Trilogy. In addition to quality and variety, Danza del Sol prides itself in offering its portfolio at affordable prices.
Mike likes to spend as much time as he can in the Temecula tasting room so he can meet as many guests as possible and talk about the wines. Besides the cherry Mediterranean-style tasting room, there’s an exclusive clubhouse for wine club members to enjoy when the regular tasting room fills up. The clubhouse and adjacent garden are available for private events, including weddings.
Just as the sun dances in its vineyard, it dances in the tasting room, on the patio, and on the surrounding Danza del Sol grounds. Guests are always welcome to linger and bask in the warmth of Danza del Sol.
