Lange Estate Winery & Vineyards

When Wendy and Don Lange first founded their namesake winery in 1987, it was one of the first wineries in the northern Willamette Valley’s beautiful Dundee Hills. From the earliest days, their focus was on handcrafting beautifully balanced estate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris.

From the beginning, the wines were well received. In fact, the Langes’ first Pinot Gris, a barrel-fermented Reserve vintage, was praised by Wine Spectator’s Matt Kramer as a “benchmark bottling”. More recent accolades include several high point scores from The Wine Enthusiast, which awarded 91 points and Cellar Selection status to the 2011 Lange Freedom Hill Pinot Noir; 91 points to the 2012 Lange Three Hills Chardonnay; 89 points to the 2012 Lange Chardonnay; and 88 points to the 2011 Lange Three Hills Cuvée Pinot Noir.

Today, as Lange Estate Winery approaches its 30th anniversary, it remains family-owned and operated. Jesse Lange, Don’s son, has been part of the winemaking team since 2004. With the goal of producing the finest possible world-class wines, Don and Jesse use the finest grapes from the most suitable locations in their own 55- acre estate vineyard and other Willamette Valley vineyards. They apply a very light touch when handling the wines—no extreme machinations—just a gentle guidance from vineyard to bottle.

The Langes are serious stewards of their land and strive to protect it and invest in its future. They have carried both the Low Impact Viticulture and Enology (LIVE) and Salmon-Safe certifications for many years and continually pursue a philosophy of sustainability in their own vineyards and those with whom they partner.

To fully appreciate the wines, one must visit their place of birth: at the end of Buena Vista Drive in the stunning Dundee Hills. The tasting room is spacious and inviting and outside the beautifully landscaped patio presents a glorious vista view that wordlessly explains why Lange Estate wines are so good.
