A legacy of farming and the distinct flavors of Arroyo Grande and Edna Valley precede the current form of Talley Vineyards by more than 70 years. In 1948, Oliver Talley began Talley Farms, which became known for a variety of specialty crops long before wine grapes were the shining star of California agriculture. The special climate and temperate growing season created an ideal location, both then and now, where attention to sustainability and nature are held in high regard.
Today, Talley Vineyards is guided by its rich family-farming heritage and commitment to high quality and long-term sustainability in every possible way.
Best known for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the winery is consistently lauded for its ability to capture the potential of coastal San Luis Obispo County. Wine Spectator’s James Laube has called Talley “one of the state’s greatest producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.”
Yet what is more precious than accolades to Brian and his wife, Johnine, is their connection to their community. In 2004, they founded the Fund for Vineyard and Farmworkers, which supports literacy and medical programs for the region’s farmworkers and their families. The fund’s endowment has been partly generated by proceeds from the Talley’s Mano Tinta, a red table wine. This is just one of the many ways the Talleys help their neighbors stay mindful of the needs of thousands of workers who plant, tend, and harvest local crops and help keep their community strong.
