In downtown Walla Walla, an historic blacksmith shop houses the tasting room and winery of Forgeron Cellars—and a little bit of luck. Forgeron, the French word for blacksmith, describes artisans who are driven by an extensive knowledge and love of their trade. In 2001, a group of passionate investors founded Forgeron Cellars and got lucky when they brought French winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla to wield the craftsmanship of truly remarkable, Euro-styled wines.

Early in the renovation of this turn-of-the-century blacksmith shop, horseshoes left over from early craftsman days were unearthed and stacked upon Marie's desk. Today the Forgeron team feels the horseshoes have brought this award-winning winery good luck. Their first releases were immediate hits and Forgeron Cellars garnered acclaim as one of the Twenty Best New Wineries in the World, Most Promising New Washington Winery, and One of the Planet's 20 Most Notable New Producers.

As the founding winemaker, co-owner, and general manager of Forgeron Cellars, Marie-Eve makes it delightfully obvious that she knows what she is doing. And the results are simply sensational. Deemed a "rising star in the world of top women winemakers" by Women for Winesense, Marie-Eve appreciates the opportunity she has to craft ultra-premium wines in order to showcase the state of Washington as a premium grape-growing region.

Contracting with vineyards strategically located across the Yakima, Columbia, and Walla Walla Valleys, Forgeron Cellars focuses on producing true varietal wines. Selecting exceptional, quality grapes from the best sites enables Marie-Eve to craft food-friendly wines of great character. A perfectionist, Marie-Eve is proud of her flagship, award-winning Chardonnay. Selecting grapes from some warmer sites and some cooler sites allows her to produce a consistently delicious product that has won Forgeron Cellars notability.

Sophisticated winemaking: Is it the French way or a whole lot of luck? One taste might not be enough to differentiate age-old tradition from sheer elegance.
