Dedicated to expressing the true essence of Sonoma County’s top-tier vineyards, Lost Canyon Winery handcrafts select, single-vineyard Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay. The winemaking strategy is simple: source premium grapes from the most famous and reputable vineyards, intervene as little as possible, and create wines that purely articulate their origin./p>

Winemaker Brad Longton is delighted with this direction. “I always anticipate the excitement and intrigue of crafting unique wines from single vineyards, allowing the grapes to express the distinctive qualities of their terroir,” he says. /p> For Pinot Noir, rewarding vineyards are sourced. Saralee and Richard Kunde’s Saralee’s Vineyard has a cool climate, sandy-clay-loam soils, gentle hills, and a soft, morning fog, courtesy of the nearby Russian River. The grapes yield a full-bodied Pinot Noir that opens boldly and finishes with lingering flavors of chocolate-covered Bing cherries. The equally renowned Morelli Lane Vineyard sits at an elevation of 1,000 feet. Its combination of cool mornings and warm daytime temperatures allow for maximum color development and unique layers of flavors to develop that allow Brad to craft the grapes into a more classic Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. The 2008 Morelli Lane Pinot Noir received 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. For Chardonnay, the Russian River Valley’s Ruxton Vineyard’s 30-year-old vines grow at a high elevation, providing a complexity of flavors and bright acidity to the grapes. The 2008 Lost Canyon Chardonnay is a favorite among classic Chardonnay lovers. It was awarded 94 points by Wine Enthusiast.

Lost Canyon has recently opened a brand-new winemaking facility and tasting room in Healdsburg in close proximity to the town square. The 1,500-square-foot wine tasting environment features a loft space and a sleek, urban style./p>

Sometimes, simple strategies prove to be the best. The strategy of being meticulous with grape selection, very light-handed with manipulation, and deliberate in staying true to terroir has certainly been the right one at Lost Canyon Winery.
