Story

At the young age of 16, Reynaldo Robledo left his home state of Michoacán, Mexico, to labor in the vineyards of the Napa Valley. He immediately had a connection to the land and realized he had found his life’s work. After years of managing and tending to the vineyards of wineries throughout Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Reynaldo knew he had the experience to start his own company. In 1996, Reynaldo, his wife Maria, and their nine children started Robledo Vineyard Management Company, which currently oversees approximately 600 acres.

In 2003, the Robledo family made history by opening the first winery in the United States established by a former Mexican migrant field laborer. They currently own and cultivate over 300 acres of vineyards spread throughout Sonoma, Napa, and Lake Counties. Although both parents are still actively involved in the business, the next generation now operates the family businesses. Everardo is winemaker and president, Jenaro is president of Robledo Vineyard Management, Luis handles outside sales, Francisco works in production, Lazaro manages the family’s two tasting rooms, and Emiliano (a senior in high school) checks inventory and works alongside his brother as vineyard supervisor.

As they enter the tasting room, guests feel instantly at home. A member of the Robledo family is usually on hand, and guests are fascinated to learn the family’s story as they enjoy the diversified portfolio of premium wines. Both locations feature beautifully handcrafted furniture from Michoacán artisans and walls are adorned with photos and articles from Mexico to the White House.

Events at Robledo Family Winery are festive and creative and offer cultural insights through the talents of Aztec dancers and live music. And no event is complete without Chef Maria Robledo’s delicious Mexican cuisine. There is also the opportunity to picnic or host a wine pairing dinner with a member of the family ready to share their journey to achieving the true American dream.
