In Welsh, the word “Gwinllan” means vineyard. Owners Chris and Gordon Pack considered it the perfect name for their family enterprise. After all, it took two years to find their special property on a ridge top in El Dorado County. They planted in 2006, harvested their first vintage in 2009, and made a big impression at the El Dorado County Fair in 2013 when two of the inaugural wines earned top honors: the 2009 Zinfandel won Double Gold and Best in Class, while the 2009 Winemaker’s Selection won a Gold.
Since then, this family winery with Welsh and English roots has blossomed into a boutique winery with an impressive portfolio crafted from estate-grown grapes. Chris and Gordon’s son and winemaker, Jonathan, gently aguides the fruit from the vineyard into wines that appeal to a range of tastes, including a splendid dry Riesling, a dry to semi-sweet Muscat, and a new Malbecdominant blend aptly named Teulu—Welsh for family.
